Breastfeeding support in Surrey from Emma Cort

Emma, a breastfeeding specialist, smiling in the sun with sunglasses on my head.

Hello! I am Emma Cort a registered Adult Nurse, Midwife and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).

My passion is supporting mums on their breastfeeding journey. Often that journey has been difficult and I am here to help you find a way through. I combine a gentle, compassionate approach with my experience and expertise to help you overcome any breastfeeding hurdle.

Importantly, I want mums to know that they don’t have to face it alone – with the right breastfeeding help, I can support you to quickly gain confidence to breastfeed your little one for months, or years, to come. Have a read of my testimonials to see how I have helped mums throughout Surrey.

So who am I?

· I trained as a Midwife at the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery at King’s College London (KCL) on its UNICEF Baby Friendly Accredited Midwifery programme. This was after my training as an Adult Nurse, which provided a wonderful foundation in patient care from The University of Liverpool.

· During my 15 years as a Midwife, I found that my passion lay with supporting women on their breastfeeding journey – educating them before birth, as well as providing breastfeeding support when the baby arrives. I followed this passion by becoming my hospital’s Infant Feeding Team lead.

· Since April 2019, I have been qualified as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). This means that I have the highest international qualification in breastfeeding support. My initial qualification consisted of 90 hours of learning, 1,000 hours of practical breastfeeding support and a 4-hour exam. In addition, every 5 years, I complete a revalidation process to update and maintain my qualified status.

· Over the years, I have lived and worked overseas supporting women in difficult and/or isolating circumstances. This means I bring an understanding of different cultures and personal circumstances and so adapt my advice to suit your individual needs.

· As part of this, I appreciate that some of my clients will prefer to refer to chestfeeding rather than breastfeeding. I will always seek to use the terms that make my clients feel most comfortable.

· My professional registrations are with the NMC and the IBLCE. I am a member of the Lactation Consultants of Great Britain (LCGB), and am fully insured.

· I work in and around the Woking area and travel within Surrey. I also hold virtual consultations with families from all over the world.

· I am married with two gorgeous children, both of whom I breastfed and both had similar yet different journeys.

I am passionate about my work in maternal care, as I know I can make a real difference to families during new and exciting, but often daunting, times in their lives. I offer antenatal and postnatal breastfeeding support options, including postnatal courses. All designed to increase your confidence.

Please do get in touch and we can discuss how I can help you.
